Van Damme kicks ass
I have figured out why Van Damme movies are so awesome. All the torture and violence and everything else, are simply not believable.
For example, take the movie Leaving Las Vegas. If you have seen this movie, you probably recall the chilling scene with Elizabeth Shue and the three guys. Don’t know about you but seeing stuff like that literally makes you feel uncomfortable. Your heart rate changes and it just feels wrong. I would even go as far as saying that movies like that disrupt your sleep and your dreams are more negative than usual.
Now, lets look at Double Impact. There is a scene where a dude is being tortured. It looks like a prop guy is spraying him with compressed air or something, and he just screams and groans all fake as shit. Our brains know that this is the movies and it’s simply not real. It’s a fuckin’ Van Damme movie… about as far from reality as can be.
Another example, lets explore one of Hollywoods all-time coolest flicks, Hard Target. In the greatest Van Damme scene ever captured on film, Van Damme and his hottie are running through Louisiana swamps trying to escape their foil, Lance Hendrickson.
Just as hottie thinks Van Damme is going to plant one on her, Van Damme comes to the rescue and smacks a rattlesnake (which for some reason is in a tree?) and pisses him off. This snake is tough though, and still has some shit to say. So Van Damme ACTUALLY PUNCHES THE SNAKE and it makes a huge punch sound effect, and the snake immediately enters unconciousness. After the initial shock wears off the chicks face, she regains her composure and asks if the snake is dead.
Not hardly.

He then of course proceeds to bite the rattle off the snake, and the story just goes on from there.
See, you still get your action, blood violence kick, but with none of the negative emotions! It’s like, family-friendly violence!
