Software Update won’t update: You do not have appropriate access privileges

Recently, I migrated my user from a Mac Pro running 10.5.2 to an iMac, also running 10.5.2. Other than Apple pro applications (Aperture, Final Cut Pro, etc.) which did not migrate over well, everything else went smooth. The trouble didn’t start until trying to run Software Update. I continuously received an error message stating that “You do not have appropriate access privileges.” Luckily, there’s an easy fix.

I first verified and repaired permissions, verified there were no problems with the disk, and tried to run Software Update again from a different user (also an administrator account).

If your Software Update says \'You do not have appropriate access privileges\', simply delete everything within your /Library/Updates/ folder, and try running Software Update again.

If your Software Update says 'You do not have appropriate access privileges', simply delete everything within your /Library/Updates/ folder, and try running Software Update again.

After much Googling and digging around, I finally came across another Mac user on the Apple Discussion Boards that found a fix. Simply delete all of the files within the Macintosh HD/Library/Updates/ folder and run Software Update again. For me, this worked like a charm. :) Just remember, this is the Library in your system, NOT your user Library.
