Saturday night saw the 43 year old Bernard Hopkins absolutely crush the younger, faster, harder-punching Kelly Pavlik in a total one-sided boxing clinic. After the fight, Hopkins stated much interest in fighting the winner of next month’s Roy Jones Jr. vs. Joe Calzaghe much-anticipated bout.  Seeing how well Bernard performed against Pavlik, this is definitely a scenario boxing fans will warm to.

While another fight with Calzaghe would probably be more entertaining than the first fight, the rematch that fans will more likely want to see is a Roy Jones rematch. So freaking much has changed since these two guys first met! If Jones beats Calzaghe, the fight between them would probably rank as the money fight of the year, provided De La Hoya retires as he claims.

The big worry about a potential Jones and Hopkins rematch though remains money. We have heard these guys bicker back and forth about how the money split should go with each camp claiming they should receive the lion’s share of the profits. We can only hope and pray that both guys will come to reason and split the fight 50/50 and sign on the dotted line. I swear, if Jones does win and they start bickering over the split and the fight doesn’t come off, I won’t watch either of these assholes fight again, PPV or not.

Hopefully though, Jones and Hopkins realize they don’t have too many fights left, and understand that this incredibly huge fight will generate such a large amount of dough, that 50/50 will suffice. And if we’re especially lucky, they have already agreed to a rough-outline of the fight behind closed doors.

Of course the situation could arise where Calzaghe wipes the floor with an old and faded Roy Jones. If that happens it will be tough to see Calzaghe giving Hopkins another fight. Instead, Jones Jr. would certainly still step up for the fight.

So keep those boxing fan fingers crossed all to hell that we’re treated to the fight we all want to see!
