Should web designers embrace spam?
I often wonder how many spam emails the average web developer/internet professional receives per day. I wonder how many hours in a given week we spend dealing with spam… whether it be spam training, pressing the Junk button, or actually even reading some of the messages. If you actually take the time to read your spam, the grammar is quite a spectacle. For example, here’s a few from the past oh… 3 seconds.

Alright. I have probably wasted six million hours watching old people type out the double-you-double-you double-you-dot-oh-shit-that’s-a-comma-backspace-backspace-backspace-backspace-double-you-double-you-double-you-dot…. fucking shit!!! So, to help combat youngsters the world over from suffering thru shit like this, I’ve decided to put together the long-needed Geezer’s Ultimate Guide to Learning Real-world, No-shit Useful Internet Techniques. Hopefully, some of you will find your glasses and learn how to quit being duped into spammers and useless anti-virus subscriptions and all kinds of other web horsestool. Every week I will write very insightful dribble that will teach you the ins, outs and sideways of the www.
This week, we’re gonna start with some basic chat room shit. Some of you will somehow be forced into chatting with some lame ass grandchild or techno-fag transgendered cousin or some other real group leader. Before we get into the beef of chatting online and learning some internet slang, let’s first understand what the fuck exactly the word ‘chat’ encompasses. You q-tip dweebs out there like to tell your friend Bozana that “you got it from an online chatroom” or some other lame nonsense like that. There are 4 major, distinct forms of ‘chatting’ on the web. (Well, at least 4 that are within the realm of your comprehension at this point. Maybe we’ll talk about them some other day.) Read more »

The other day Apple introduced a brand-new 24″ LED display that compliments their line of notebook computers. As I was glancing at the features, I noticed that one of their pictures adds a giant shiny glare thing, directly through the middle of the loupe tool in Aperture. Read more »

For some reason about 100 million people have asked me “just exactly what the hell is RSS?” in the past 3 minutes. RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication, which is basically a really simple way to syndicate shit.
My brother wrote an article talking about RSS not too long ago, and it’s probably one of the best explanations of what exactly RSS is and what it can do for you.
Give it a read. If you’re still left wondering what RSS is, you probably don’t deserve to know.

Recently, I migrated my user from a Mac Pro running 10.5.2 to an iMac, also running 10.5.2. Other than Apple pro applications (Aperture, Final Cut Pro, etc.) which did not migrate over well, everything else went smooth. The trouble didn’t start until trying to run Software Update. I continuously received an error message stating that “You do not have appropriate access privileges.” Luckily, there’s an easy fix. Read more »

If this works, hot diapers! If not, son of a bitch. Testing testing.
UPDATE: 2 minutes later, this sucker works! I get some errors here and there but probably an easy fix. This is kick ass! Thanks to Roderick Russell for this awesome Wordpress plugin!

After using a new Wordpress 2.5 all I can say is that I hope Steve reads this and upgrades this Version 1.suck or whatever I am using right now. 2.5 really really kicks butt! The admin area is super duper friendly. I used to recommend Blogger over Wordpress solely for ease-of-use, but after setting up a new site of ours, I had this sucker running in no time.
But, even though ‘taint done yet, Groovy Web Design is proud to honor one of THE all-time heroes of the whole earth. Well at least I think he is one BAMF.

UPDATE: Shit, I was wrong Apollo was built with Wordpress 2.6, not 2.5. Version 2.6 is super super kick ass. Those Wordpress developers have really nailed it with this one. Kudos.

As the loyalist of loyal Mac followers, Steve, Tom and I collectively agree that Leopard, and more specifically, the garbage-ridden turd known as Leopard Server, is the absolute worst Apple product in history.
I mean I’m not switching to eMachines and Vista or anything tardy but man Leopard Server is just a real pile. If you are a business owner considering this upgrade, DON’T DO IT. YOU WILL REGRET IT.
